Hanover's Eclectic 250th Schedule

Liz Burdette, the hard-working asstant director over at the Hanover Parks and Recreation Department, jumped through a bunch of hoops recently to send me a list of the events Hanover is planning for its 250th celebration.

It's still very much a work in progress, and Julia Griffin, Hanover’s town manager, told me that many town organizations are involved in pulling it all together.

In case you missed it in the most recent Sunday Valley News, here's the schedule as it stands so far:

May

May 11 — Jay Barrett, Hanover native, historian and author, will present “1761-1770 The Chartering and Founding of the Town of Hanover and Dartmouth College”: 7-9:30 p.m., at the Howe Library.

May 25 — Barrett will present “The Early Settlement of Hanover and Dartmouth College 1770-1795” and “The ‘Western Rebellion’ 1776-1784”: 7-9:30 p.m., at the Howe Library.

May 25 — Pig and Wolf Street Art Welcoming Party at the R.W. Black Community Center.

May 30 — Muster Day and Bench Dedication: Hanover Center Green, 4 p.m.

June

All Month — Look for the Pig and Wolf Scavenger Hunt; historic window displays downtown, street banners designed by Hanover students, period gardens by Hanover Garden Club. Etna Library’s summer programs will include Colonial crafts on Wednesday evenings from June 29 through July 27, and “Etna History Collection,” which invites people to bring their Etna family histories, memories, pictures and historical information to create a collection of local memories.

June 15 —Barrett will present “Slices of Early Etna and Hanover Center History”: 7-8 p.m. at the Etna Library.

June 24-26 — Hanover Center Fair.

June 29 — Making “Memory Squares” for an Etna Library quilt.

July

July 2 — Fireworks at Reservoir Road Field at dusk.

July 2 — Hanover High School All Class Reunion.

July 3 — Pancake breakfast in the morning (location TBA). Afternoon activities on the Dartmouth Green include: live music, magician BJ Hickman, barbeque, historical re-enactors, tours of Webster Cottage, inflatable obstacle course, wagon rides, period demonstrations and a family concert at 6:30 p.m.

July 4 — Parade: “History on Parade” at 10 a.m., speakers, games, food and music.
