Vital Communities
Do you know how old your town is?

There is big anniversary coming up next year in the upper valley – 250 years for some towns. If you live in Canaan, Enfield, Fairlee, Hanover, Hartford, Hartland, Lebanon, Lyme, Norwich, Plainfield, Thetford or Windsor, your town is part of a group known as the Middle Grants.

In 1761, Governor Benning Wentworth issued the charters to these towns and many more.

This would be a great time to find out more about the beginning of your town. What was life like in 1761? What was life like in your town before 1761?

Valley Quest is hoping to get a Colonial or Early Settlement Quest written for each town.

Stay tuned for more information about our upcoming teacher and historian workshops to get this process started. In the meantime, get in touch with your town’s historical society and see how you can get involved.

For more information on getting a Valley Quest in your town contact Laura by email or at (802) 291-9100 ext 107.

All of these towns have great characters and stories to be discovered. This 250th Anniversary is the perfect time to really learn about the towns we live in.
