It’s these warm days and cold nights that are making the sap run like crazy. For the last week or two, the weather has been ideal for sugaring and most of the sugarhouses in the area are running full steam.
According to our friends at the Taylor Brothers Sugar House, they have been “boiling up a storm” for the last nine straight days. As of today (March 8), they are already approaching 600 gallons and the syrup being produced is what is known as “light amber” or “fancy” grade. It’s the good stuff and so far there’s lots of it!
Anyone interested in observing the process first-hand is welcome to visit the Taylor Brothers Sugar House, located in Meriden, NH. Their official visiting hours are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. but Rob says if you see steam coming out of the sugar house, it means they’re boiling so come on in for a visit.
