Municipal Network discusses workforce housing

Recent NH legislation dealing with work force housing was the topic of discussion last week for elected and appointed municipal officials at a workshop planned by THE MUNICIPAL NETWORK.

The Municipal Network is sponsored by Vital Communities along with the Upper Valley’s 3 regional planning commissions and the League of Women Voters.

The new law (RSA 674:58-61) requires municipalities to provide “reasonable and realistic opportunities for the development of workforce housing” in the majority of its residential zoned land areas. While the impact won’t be immediate, the implications of this new law are profound: it prohibits exclusionary zoning measures (e.g. large lot sizes) that some towns use to make it nearly impossible to build homes affordable to working families.”
