Stawberry Time in the Upper Valley
Gotta love strawberry season! Strawberries are wonderful served with fresh cream or ice cream, delicious blended into a smoothie with milk or Vermont soymilk, strawberries are also perfect eaten just as is.
It's always fun to pick your own strawberries or you can find local strawberries at farmers markets, farm stands, or grocers. Use this list to find information about where and when you can get these favorite berries. Note that a few farms have late season berries which are not ready until August.
Picking your own berries is a fun family outing, and extra berries are easy to freeze: just rinse, dry gently, remove the caps and freeze. (If you want the frozen berries to stay whole, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet; after 3 or 4 hours collect them into freezer bags or containers.) I have already picked at Cedar Circle Farm in E. Thetford - enough to freeze and eat for a few days. I'll be back for more a few more times this season.
Tip: always call to check conditions before a pick-your-own trip.
For complete Strawberry mania don't forget to check out a strawberry festival around the Upper Valley. Click here for more info on Cedar Circle Farm's Strawberry Festival on June 27.
